Decisions Decisions
« on: January 11, 2010, 05:29:59 PM »
I've got a hankerin for a new rifle...I don't really need one, but need very rarely enters into the equation....I'm considering either a CZ550 in 6.5x55 Swede or a Remington 700 SPS Tactical (the one they made with the 20" heavy barrel and hogue stock)...I've got a Tikka T3 in 308 already, and 270 WSM in a Tikka too, I've also got a new Ruger Hawkeye in 257 Roberts, and a CZ527 in 7.62x39....The 6.5x55 is intriguing..it's barely used, been shot like 5 times and a steal...the Remington by all accounts is a shooter...I punch paper some with my high powereds, but mostly with rimfires...been thinking about shooting paper at longer ranges....Anyway...your guess is as good as mine...Any suggestions...?

Get the Swede, you'll never look back (and besides, the 6.5 outshoots the 308.) jmtcw.

I think you will enjoy the 6.5 . It is a great low recoil shooter,  excellent on deer sized game should you hunt . We used ours first as a trainer and now is used mainly in the deer woods .If you can get a deal on a used CZ  I am sure you will be pleased  ,otherwise get it in tikka for sub MOA groups with reloads. With two tikka's already you must admitt , there isn't a smoother action . Then too after they settle down with a few rounds behind the belt they too do some nice groups. Then too there is no work to be gone to triggers ETC, It is ready to shoot after the scope, while other units require some tuning
Never said if your into reloading , but asume you are since your feedin' a few in the stable.
Do some research on the Remington Tach. Read on the forums somewhere that were not the best for grouping .Then too I am sure it is a matter of a bit of tweetin'

Well Congrads on a new member to the family .
Do you reload? Powders suited for the 06 generaly work best for this round . We load H4350 with the 140 gr , but you can also try R22 and N160 with this bullet weight . Great for deer as well as punching paper .I am sure too looking at other posts you will find some data
