I got a 7mm Mag today
« on: May 09, 2010, 06:40:37 PM »
I came into a Savage 111 in 7 mag today. I always wanted one so that I could hunt anything that I would ever want to hunt. Anyone else have one that they have or plan to use on a black bear? I was wanting to know what bullet weight everyone is using. It came with a box of 175 gr. Soft points from Federal.
Thanks,

I prefer the 175 grain. Sounds like you are set. Nothing wrong with the Federal load. I like the 175 grain Remington Core-Lokt as well.

I have used 140's on whitetail with great success. Less recoil then 175's and flatter trajectory.

I have also used 120's on whitetail, works well.

I have not even been able to shoot it yet. I have shot a 7 mag before but this one is a whole lot lighter than the one I shot before.

Not as bad as I thought that it would be! Even being light and using 175 grainers. I was prepared for the worst. Glad I was surprised.
