Jan 06, 2010MADISON (WKOW) -- Wisconsin wardens arrested nearly 30 felons during the November gun deer hunt for possessing a firearm, the most in seven years.
A report released by the state Department of Natural Resources says wardens arrested 29 felons in 2009. That's compared with nine last year, 16 in 2007 and nine in 2006.
Felons are prohibited from possessing firearms under state and federal law but are allowed to purchase hunting licenses in Wisconsin.
Eau Claire democrat State Rep. Jeff Smith is working on a bill to prohibit felons from purchasing any kind of gun hunting license.
