243 Superlight compact questions
« on: January 13, 2010, 10:25:05 AM »
Hey guys! Great forum you all have here. Spent many hours reading old posts a few weeks ago when I found this place.

I am a few weeks away from purchasing a new 243 Superlight Compact. I have owned Handi's in the past, but none in the safe at this time. I am really close to purchasing this gun for my son's first rifle, but looking for some answers first. Where did they loose all the weight for the Superlights? Barrel, reciever, etc? Can the full size stock still be bolted up to the Superlight frame? Am I limited to what barrels I will be able to fit the superlight with?
I have read posts of people saying to stay away from the Superlights, but I really dont want to get into all of that. There will be 70-80gr handloads made up for this gun with suggested youth charges using H4895. I'm not saying that he is going to be hunting with it, but I know there will be alot shooting practice with it. I have a safe full of 223's, 243's, etc that he will be able to use when his frame gets bigger, I just want this small rifle and weight for the size he is now. Mainly.. Daddy wants a new gun to play with ;D

You can put any of the Handi barrels and stock sets on them.

The reduced weight is from the stock, forearm, and barrel.. The SB-2 receiver is the same as the regular handi's, ultras, ect...

WELCOME!!

I tried one, but never got it to shoot very well. So I sold it and tried the .223 superlight and it would't shoot minute of barn either. I hope you have better luck than I did with the superlights. I really wish I had confidence in getting one that would shoot well, because I think they are just about the perfect size and weight for toting around.
