Loading "Combined Tech" Ballistic Silvertips
« on: October 30, 2003, 07:47:40 AM »
Hi all ... I've been loading 150gr Nosler Ballistic Tips in my 30-30 Contender for years with great results.  Well, I couldn't find any the other day at 2 different gun shops, so I came home with a box of 150gr Ballistic Silvertips with the "Lubalox" coating.  I'm just curious if anyone has any experience with these and whether I will need a hotter load to get the same velocity that I've been getting with the Nosler's (like Moly coating would do)?  Another question is whether the Lubalox coating will coat the bore of my gun and whether I need to start with a totally clean barrel?

Any and all info concerning these bullets would be most appreciated!  I know that they are basically the same bullet as Nosler Ballistic Tips, so thought I'd give them a "shot"!

Thanks ... Crayfish

I have never shot the Ballistic Silvertips, but have shot the Lubaloz coated Failsafe and had no problems with fouling, cleaning  or shooting to "coat" the barrel.  It seems like good stuff, better than moly I think.

Thanks, Hcliff.  I found some info on the Nosler website that said the same thing ... just shoot it and don't worry about mixing with normal bullets or special prep / cleanup / etc.

Thanks again .. Crayfish

I disected some loaded ammo that my brother-in-law had bought and noticed that when the bullet was seated the brass was very rough and scratched much of the coating off. It's almost like a nylon coating. So if I were to load them, my suggestion would be to make sure your case mouths are free of burrs and nice and smooth. Just my 2 cents.
