Hi Kevin,

I'm a fan of the Rem 572. Mine shoots 1 to 2 inch groups at 50 yards with the original iron sights. I've had the best groups with the cheap bricks of Remington Gold and High Velocity Hollow Points. The Rem. High Velocity Shorts don't group as well. You should try different brands of .22 ammo until you find a round that shoots well in your rifle. The trigger assembly can be taken out the same way as on the other Remingtons such as the 870 and 7600. Your gun smith should be able to adjust the trigger.

I had one of those back in '87 in the BDL version. The rifle was sent back to Remington (at their request) twice for various issues, so I finally wound up swapping it off. But for the short time I had it, I found that this rifle performed best with the hyper-velocity stuff. The best loads were the Remington Viper and Federal Spitfire (which, IIRC, was also hyper-velocity).

I had one of those in the Mid-1980's as well.  It may have been an OK group-shooter at 50 yards, but mine came with a stock and forearm that somebody at the factory forgot to apply walnut stain to.  The stock had a high comb--too high to comfortably use as-is with the factory iron sights (which, by the way, weren't bad).  The other gripe I had with the design was the pump-forearm.  If you didn't reach way out on it, you could easily pinch your hand between pump handle and front of the action.  I traded away a Rossi copy of a Winchester pump 22 for this-thinking I needed an origninal--made in USA.  In retrospect I wish I'd never traded the Rossi--or that I could have traded the Rossi for an original Winchester.

Mine was a tack driver with regular Remington Golden bullet ammo.  Why I got rid of it I'll never be able to understand.(temporary insanity?)  Both 552 semi's-whole 'nuther story-accurate but the worst jamming 22's I've owned.
