H&R Sportsman 999 22LR?

Are these good revolvers and how's the acuracy? What would the value of one in good shape be?   Thanks, Mike

These are an excellent revolver.  I dearly love mine and consider it one of the few guns I would never sell.  I can't say what the prices are running but I'd guess around $150 or so.  If you buy it, you'll love it.  44 Man

just paid $299.00 for one and it was a bargain.....these are very popular still and are drawing good prices

www.thefirearmsforum.com  has a hotbead of H&R fans and a couple resident experts on values.

I am guessing about $300 for a nice one based on what I remember, but prices vary widely with condition and location....

I apoligize.  I guess I'm a little out of touch on the prices.  I paid $125 for mine (used) 20 years ago and then passed up a new 4" as they were ending production for $150.  I've been kicking myself for that every since.  44 Man

Yes,
Prices on the model 999 have really been increasing the last couple of years.
 A nice shooter will regularly bring $ 350 - 400. That is a piece in excellent condition.
I paid more than that for most of these.
I pay a premium because I am picky, I only buy excellent or better pieces, with original boxes.
You can find them cheaper if you don't require the box, or top condition.

I had one of these for years. Bought it new. Used it for quite a few years and it always functioned flawlessly and was generally fairly accurate. I let my youngest brother borrow it about 10 years ago and haven't seen it since.

My Father in law has owned one of those H&R Sportsman .22's since Harry Truman was residing on Pennsylvania
Ave, and Dad still uses it occasionally.

I once owned a brand new 1980 6" bbl model, but later sold it to help fund My purchase of a new 4" bbl S&W 617, back when Papa Bush hailed from DC.
The family member who bought My H&R 999, still owns it, and regularly uses it for predator control, ie, protecting the chickens.

My H&R 999 had decent hunting accuracy, but I wanted something with target accuracy, yet good for field carry as well.

just got it in and wanted to show it off...price was $299 on Gunbroker, and the revolver is really in "NIB" shape even though I know it's been fired..very tight, very few use marks, for me finally, I have one after lusting 30 years....


Oh and to add..fired some CB caps in the backyard woodpile. Revolver is tight and clocks perfectly. Man I didnt realize how slow the CB caps are, I'd swear I could see the bullet travel!!!!

Yup,
Another one that got away from me. They were just ending production when I decided one of them wouldn't be too bad. The article in GUN WEEK claimed that the hand-work involved made them too expensive to produce to be competetive with the Ruger & Browning autoloaders, etc. They were cool!
