I need a peer review
« on: January 17, 2010, 06:15:05 PM »
I went to the range Today (1/17/10). It was drizzling on and off. Wind less than 10 MPH.
@ a 100 yards, 5 rounds Remington UMC JHP 50gr; this is what I got:

First round, high at 1 O’clock. Tech error. No problem; got to work on that. Last time I used “brake cleaner” on a patch and ran it through the bore before I started and did not get the flyer. In theory to remove oil that could cause the first bullet to misbehave. This time I did not do that, but still, I’m calling it “tech error”.

The issue is with what I labeled the “5th”’ hole. At first I thought my fifth shot was wild, completely off the target. But closely inspecting the target I saw that my forth hole had a bump at the top; looks like a bullet hole but smaller.

Is that my fifth shot or am I looking at some artifact?

Your expertise would be appreciated.

It's a hit. You can see the smudge left by the bullet. Nice shooting. From now on just call #1 a fouling shot!

I agree, that missing bullet isn't missing.... its in there!!

I have shot and scored tens of thousands of 22, 38 and 45cal targets in the past 25years shooting bullseye competition. There are "overlays and scopes and plugs" to be used to find out for sure. Sorry none will work on a computer screen. So your just going to have to trust us, its there.

Here is a three shot group from my 12Ga USH shooting Buckhammers. These shells are like a 38 wadcutter, they are full bore slugs with a sharp shouldered profile. Its hard to see, but there is three holes in the target. You can just see the oblong bottom hole. Its been repeated many times over with this gun, it like yours is a shooter.

Yup, good shootin,
I don't really care for those shoot-n-see targets, they're fun, 'specialy if ya use'm for backing a bunch of other targets, then it looks kinda cool with a bunch of hits.
But after a few X's the bull is just a big yellow blob, and gets hard to define.

I made my own after printing a bunch of free ones from links online that didn't make me happy either.
I put it on the bottom here.
It's got a 1" grid and a place for data,,I can see this at 200 with optics, the center white is a dime. help yer self to printing, and ya can always modify it if ya want. ;)

I was called upon many times to act as judge to break a tie in the old PPC combat matches I would participate in as Co-Captain of of State Police pistol team. I would say that is a double and it is a hit...Good shooting....<><....:)
