.44 Mag Corbon DPX for handguns only?
« on: February 02, 2010, 01:07:53 PM »
I was interested in trying this in my Browning B-92, but it said on the box "For Handguns Only".  Is it too long to chamber, or the pressures too high or won't expand at the higher velocities? I'm new to the 44, and don't want to blow up my like-new Browning, or myself (not so new). Thanks in advance.

My 1st post. Hope this is the right spot. Great site.
Greetings to all,
Steve

My guess is that the hollow point is not big enough to clear the primer of the round in front of it in a tube magazine. So DON'T DO IT. Even if it looks ok. I doubt it but still that is the only reason I can think of.
The DPX is basically a 225g barnes copper bullet, I doubt the extra 200 or so fps would cause that bullet to come apart, and manufactured loads have to be within SAAMI spec, Even Buffalo Bore, so I also doubt the pressure issue...

The gentleman at Corbon told me it's not a safety issue, only that this round is long for caliber, and might not cycle. He said it would be fine for single shot. That should be all I need, right? Guess it's time to start reloading. I've been wanting to for a while now.

Interesting...someone gave me a pak of cor-bon 350gr loaded cartridges in 45-70 that states for single shot pistols only.  Threw in the back of my ammo locker.  Wonder how they'd work in my #1???  No real need to try them though....think I'll give them to Grizzz66 tomorrow.
