Mine is a Yugoslavian Mauser M-48A 8mm rifle bought for $79.  Will likely drill & tap for a Williams peep.  Great caliber and Eastern-bloc 8mm ammo is still ultra cheap.

I've been looking for an Indian Ishapore S.M.L.E. ln .308W, that could be modified into a nimble rugged carbine.

I live in NW Atlanta and a local pawn has a 308 Spanish Mauser carbine
for $175.  That would do as well as Ishapore

I had an ishapoor, It was a cool gun, but hard to find one with good headspacing, took me along time and in the end wasnt worth it.

try this out http://www.gibbsrifle.com/historical_remakes.html You can sometimes find them at gunshows or if you do a search you may see one around on the interweb

may be what youre looking for.  http://www.gibbsrifle.com/sport_speciality.html this too

as for a truck gun, all mine are, but I use the excuse of "i need a new Truck Gun" all the time.  Though Im in the planning stage of a new one, may work out cool.

Most of the time it's my 12ga Survivor but if my personal security alert level is raised for some reason the AR,870 and 1911 might come along as well.

I'd much rather be remembered for being a great shot than having the most expensive gun
