I was at the range the other day and cease fire was called so everyone could pull/change targets.  This is an outdoor range built into the side of a pretty good size ridge and operated by state wildlife resources.  There are target frames at 17, 50, and 100 yards, and about 20 stations.  I put up a clean target on the 50 yd frame.  The guys to my left and right put up targets on the 100 yd frames.  After commence fire was allowed, the guy to my left and to my right complained that someone was "cross-shooting", i.e. someone on another bench was shooting their targets.  No way to tell who it really was.  At the next cease fire, it was reported by the 2 guys that what they thought were bullet holes, was really mud spatter thrown up on their targets by me.  I was shooting the 50 yard target, which is a bit down-hill from the 100 yd targets, with my 45-70 BFR.  Those big 405's were slamming into the mud short of the 100 yard targets and scattering mud specks 20 feet in all directions.  I moved down to another bench which had no one on either side.  Another hazard of shooting 45-70.

I use to put my target stand in front of an old HONEY LOCUS tree about 15" in diameter.
These trees are hard as a rock and make great fence posts .
They also will dull a new chain on a saw in just a few cuts with sparks a flying.
It didn't take to long before I looked out the window and my tree was gone.
I went down to see what had happened to it and there it was, my first tree cut down from gunfire.
I moved the stand a few yards to another one a little larger and just like replaying the ending to a movie.
You want a different ending but it just comes out the same.
Lord the number of rounds over the years it took to cut down two trees.
I now have a large mound of dirt that has a very deep channel cutting it's way through it.
I can refill the channel in a matter of minutes but I don't think i will be around if & when the trees ever try to grow back.
