Warranty stuff...
« on: January 18, 2011, 03:38:42 PM »
Sent in my PT-111 Ti in 9mm, after 1500+ rnds down the tube where the slide / barrel pin goes through the lower alum insert started to crack so I thought I would see what they could do or would do. This was my first time to ever deal with there cust service. So with one fac mag in the box I took it to my local gun shop to have them send it off, about 6 weeks later they call me to come and pick it up. The next day I go to pick it up as soon as I open up the box to see what they had done and it was not my gun in the box, the smith there pulls out the paper work and looks it over good and said I was right cause they sent me a new gun. I though cool two new mags and all, well when I got home to check it over real good and I find out it has a sa/da trigger 12 rnd mag (old was 10) adjustable dove tail (windage) sights (old fixed) better feeling backstrap on the pistol grip. The only downside I see is mine had night sights and this one does not so I called and they tell me they don't have them any more. I still think I came out a head.

Your story is the second replacement gun I have heard of Taurus sending recently. My friend at the sportsmans club was shooting his Raging Bull 44 mag getting ready for bear season and it was hitting about 18  inches left at 25 yards. Sent it in and Taurus sent him a new gun 3 days later.

I just dropped off my tcp 738 today at the shop where I bought it on Friday. It shot one full Mag. fine, then on the second the hammer stopped falling all the way to the firing pin :( It will be on a Fed Ex truck tomorrow headed for Florida, I hope I have a good story to tell about the Taurus cust. serv. in a few weeks when the dust clears.

Taurus has a great warranty and customer service.  The down side is that everyone that I know that owns one has had to use it.

I had a PT-22 that I bought about 4-5 years ago that was a demonstration (in the glass case) model that had been handled by many customers. The price was very, very good. took it home and put it up, figuring that I would get to the range in a couple of weeks. Due to work it didn't happen and I literally forgot about it. three months ago while cleaning weapons and looking through the gun safe, I found it. got to checking it and found out that the firing pin was broken. So I took it to my "firearms toy store" and had them send it in. 4 weeks later they called and said it was in. Looked it over and they had also replaced the grips (which had been pretty dinged up from all the handling) Not only did they replace the firing pin but said the grips had a crack in them and they replace them also. I'd say that was pretty good service. I immediately went to the range and test fired it. Perfect function and it hit pretty good at 25 yards ( a 2 1/2 inch group, which I think for a .22 cal. 2 1/2 inch barrel is doing fine). After all it is a backup and plinker. I'm satisfied with their service and warrenty.  God Bless to all.

I have to admit that I was glad I didn't get charged a shipping fee when I dropped it off yesterday. It cost me about $40 in gas to get back to the dealer that I bought it from. Another $30-$40 for shipping and handling would have been salt in the wound.

Ugrades and warranty work is great but, by the numbers of reports, does not reflect highly on the product.

Yeah, funny thing is, before I bought, I did several Google searches for "xxxx reviews" and all of the reviews that came up were good. Then after I had a problem I changed my search to "XXX issues" UH OH, it would seem I wasn't the first person to have the same issue.  Now everything I see says they have a great warranty, but none too fast. Something that really breaks my heart is the 2 other Taurus pistols that I have a are stamped made in Brazil and I've had no issues with them, but the one that says made in USA didn't make it through 2 magazines before it failed :(

I didn't say it was Taurus problem I live so far from the dealer! I said I was glad I didn't have to pay shipping on top of my expenses. Now that you mention it though, it is Taurus problem they let that piece of junk and many others like it out the door of their factory.

I agree they are junk.

Its not my place to defend them but I have to ask Swampman do you own any of them? Do you know they are "junk" first hand?

I am curious

It took a week for Taurus to receive my TCP, a week to repair it, then shipped it back over night. The work order said "trigger wouldn't reset- Replaced, wouldn't eject-Replaced, magazine falls out- Replaced" The only complaint I had was the trigger not resetting. I don't know if they replaced the rest just to make sure or if they had issues while testing it? Anyway, I look forward to spending a day at the range next week to let this little unit earn some of my trust back. I wish they would have got it right the first time, but I can't complain to loud, Taurus paid shipping and made the repairs no questions asked.
