Blacks Creek Cowboy Rifle Match Feb 6th
« on: February 08, 2010, 05:43:06 AM »
The weather was cold with very little wind.  We had 18 shooters.  I had put on a new sight and had only been able to get sight settings at 200 yards.  I started on turkeys and only got 6 after getting my sights figured out.  I managed to get ten rams after further messing around with my sights.  I got 15 chickens and 12 pigs which left me with a 43.  I don't expect to win with a 43 but I did get 1st AAA.

After the match I decided to try for the long run on chickens.  Ed Green had 15 chickens also and decided to give it a try also.  The Long run record was set by Phil Rossell of Ferndale Washington in 2003 at 35 chickens.  I was choking and only made it to 29 when I had one shot left and the timer called cease fire.  Ed went on to 36 before he missed and set a new NRA National record.  It turned out to be a great day and I was sure happy for Ed.

Our next match will be held on March 6th and will consist of a 40 round smallbore and a 40 round pistol cartridge match.

Nampa rod & Gun Club will hold its first match this year on March 27th.  We will have a smallbore Hunters pistol, then Hunters Pistol in the morning.  After lunch we have Pistol Cartridge Cowboy Rifle then Smallbore Cowboy Rifle.  Nampa can handle twice as many shooters as the Blacks Creek club and we can shoot all 4 matches easily before 4pm.
