32 H&R for coyote????
« on: January 25, 2010, 01:40:40 PM »
I have a FA97 in 32H&R. I 've been using it for coyote, but haven't called any in close enough yet.
Just wondering if anybody has ever used it on coyotes. In my FA97 my hunting loads are 90gr.Sierra@1300fps or Lyman 311316gc-117gr@1200fps.
Two inch groups@50yds is not uncommon. With a scope, I hope this would work to 100yds.What do think???

That sounds fun!!!! It'll work just fine. I killed several with a .22lr when I was a kid!!! So I know the .32 will work!!!

A screwdriver would kill them too but every Yote I ever saw, seen me long before. My point being that you may not get close enough for your 32.

Shoot a .32H&R 10" contender, and I think with iron sights I'd go 75yds, mebbe 100. I figure if I can knock a ram over at 100yds it should be okay on a yote. They come real close where I grew up in Southern AZ. Wonder how many 32 cal carbines have been used by riders to keep yotes away from cattle.

I have no doubt that the .32 will do just fine . Just make sure that you pick your shots
The first truck that I had came from coyotes and a ruger 10/22 . If that will kill them,
just think of it like a gear head . There is no replacement for displacement

smoke, you just made me think I'd like a "10/32" ... semi-auto carbine in .327, .32 H&R, .32 Long and shorts. Deerfield carbine style.

I'm in just let me know were I can send the check . I know that there will be alot of people that will look at my post and say that he is full of crap . If you are confident and know were your bullet is going to go there isvery few things  that you cant pull off .  If you think of a hand gun as a really powerfull bow with less error it will put everything into sight  And besides sometimes it better to be lucy than good

Well, I'm surprised by the number of positive responses. I've used the .32 H&R some, mostly on groundhogs and such, and would have considered it too light to be dependable for coyotes. But then, I've never shot a coyote with mine, so I defer to those with experience at having done so.

Well we need to remember it's numbers are very close to the old venerable 38 spl.
Velocity and energy wise it's quite a capable little round.

Per the tables, a heavy 95gr lwc has about 200# of energy traveling just under 1000fps at 50 yds, and that's from a 4.5" barrel. A .22WMR only has a little more velocity, but with half the bullet weight, and 60% of the energy from a rifle barrel. Don't know who gave the 32 a bad rap, but it'll do the job.

I have killed a number of coyotes with a 22LR in my Ruger mark one. Yeah I know it cant be done but, you use what you have with you.
Compared to a 22 the 32 Mag is a giant killer.
