Nothing as bad as noticing maggots in mah oatmeal
.
I have been eating some cookies before and noticed when I was on the second one that there was ants crawling on them. It was a bit wierd (I stopped eating them), but it didn't freak me out too bad.
At one of the local chinese places I've found a gnat in some hot and sour soup. Also found a piece of brillow pad in some general tso's chicken from there. I've switched places (the other chinese place that I go now is literally amazing - very clean, and with very, very friendly people - all the food is homemade too - none of the pre-cooked stuff most chinese places serve).
Other than that - I've found the occasional hair in my food (happens from time to time - even at home). I figure that if it was cooked that hair was pretty well sterlized so I usually will just pick it out.
Probably the worst I've had wasn't a case of something being in my food/drink, but rather: when I was in college I loved this chicken place (Zaxby's - they're a franchise that's growing pretty fast). Anyways, I went there one day, got a take out order with my usual - sweet tea. Well, my car had two cup holders and it happened to have a cup of tea from a few weeks ago that I'd forgot and left in there (when I was in college I often didn't drive the car much - most everything I wanted to go to was within walking distance so I'd go a few weeks without driving it sometimes). Anyways, a ways into my on the drive munching I reached for my tea and without realizing I picked up the old one instead of the new one. Let me put it this way: there was a lemon floating in it and I swear I tasted a bit of fermented alcohol when I took that sip. It had to have been there for a while. Almost threw up right there in the car. I had to pull over and grab my mouthwash that I kept in the glove box before continuing the drive

Similarly (but not really nasty), I tend to get freaked out if I drink anything that isn't what I expect it to be. Say I order a coke from a drive through and they goof up the order and give me sprite. If it's a solid cup you can't readily tell at a glance. I drink sprite sometimes - it's fine, but if I'm expecting coke and taste sprite it'll freak me out bad for a second or two.
