Para Ordnance LDA
« on: January 20, 2010, 07:19:16 AM »
I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the Para Ordnance LDA. I am thinking about buying one but I do not really know anything about them. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have had one for several years . I like mine . Never had a malfunction , couldn't tell you how many rounds i have put thru. it but i shot it alot in IDPA .
You have to remember to not cock the hammer . My gun is all steel . A friend had one the grip safety was a problem , poor fit .
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

SHOOTALL,

Thanks for the information. It's good to hear from someone that has actually put one through the ringer buy shooting it a lot. How would you compare the smoothness of trigger to some other double action firearms you may have shot? Sorry about the last post hit the wrong bytton typing.

the trigger is best DA auto i have shot . It has some take up to get used to but thats easy . When shooting IDPA i used Sigs , Bretta's , Glocks and S&W . The only one i kept of the guns i shot was the LDA . If you get one check the grip safety for fit . I have only seen one that was a problem . Mine is a double stack full size gun .

I have only dry fired these in the store, but the idea in a single stack commander size intrigues me.  What I don't like is it is not a true double action, no second strike, yet you have more parts and longer trigger.  you have to try the trigger yourself to believe it.

This thread brings up some old ideas of mine.  I feel that the LDA trigger system and the Sig DAK are the only two comparable systems on the market and make a very good alternative to plastic striker fired pistols.  I originally dismissed the LDA because like all para's it has the series 80 firing pin safety (why I went with springfield) and it has many additional parts and full stripping is more complicated than a standard 1911.  I am a tinkerer so being able to completely strip the 1911 and replace anything on it makes me all warm and fuzzy.

However in a fit of insomnia last night I looked at manuals for most common DA pistols and found that the LDA actually does not have a significantly greater amount of parts than other DA models, so if you compare to other pistols in its class, especially the DAK Sig, it is nothing extraordinary.  Also, most (maybe all) current DA pistols have some firing pin block safety.

The sig is an outstanding firearm, exhibiting very good accuracy and reliability.  I have owned a p245 and have shot a 226 in 9mm and 40s&w extensively.  I like them very much, want to love them, but they just don't fit me quite right.  The 1911 fits me perfectly.

I will watch this thread closely for real world experience from others.

I got rid of all the sigs i had because they did not fit as you said . They are fine guns to be sure but the LDA suited me more
