Contender 45-70 carbine - How do you compare?
« on: January 27, 2010, 01:11:00 PM »
Got a good deal on one and it is inbound. How do you like/compare it to other 45-70's? I shoot Handis and 1895's.

i found my 21" 45/70 to be quite brisk in the recoil dept.but it does shoot really well with the lighter .458 cast bullets.maybe a weighted forend might help to tame it.i dont put it on my frame very much for that reason mostly. :)

It's my understanding that 45-70's in a Contender need to be at trapdoor levels of power or it puts too much pressure on the frame. I had a ported 14 inch but haven't owned a carbine in one.
