Big loop lever
« on: January 30, 2010, 02:25:36 PM »
I want a bigger lever for my 1895 G, and can see that I can choose between DRC custom and Wildwest.  It seem to me that the loops are of different size.  Which one do you recommend for cold winterdays wearing warm hunting gloves?

The wild west loop is almost too big.  The DRC lever is about right.  SInce they are the same price I would opt for the DRC lever.

Hmmmm!  I can see that DRC is discontinued by Brownells.  Where can I get it?

Hmmmmm !   How about from David R. Clay, owner of DRC (David R. Clay Custom Guns) - 817-783-6099  ?

Not quite.

MidwayUSA's site says "out-of-stock, backorders OK".

I didn't check the MidwayNorge site, though.

Couldn't you just order a Marlin factory lever from their 1895SBL or GBL or STBL?

My country`s importer of Marlin - said that GBL not yet is in the market(?).
Only SBL.

On Marlin`s site - I can`t see the GBL.

Marlin has begun production of the SBL's and GBL's which are available in limited quantities in the US. They are also producing an 1895 SSBL which has a walnut stock, stainless action & bbl. and big loop (BL). The SSBL may not have been released yet but I'm told that they were exhibited at the Shot Show.

Either way, I assume that all the big loops are the same in these variations of the Marlin 1895 and should, therefore, be available as a part..

I have a Guide Gun with factory lever. I'll admit to coveting the mid sized loop levers, but not enough to purchase one. I have a 16" Win Wrangler in .32 Win Spec that I purchased new with a large loop lever. I replaced the large loop with a standard lever. Fits lots better in a 4-wheeler scabbard now. Good luck.

You can always make your own.  It's not that hard to roll out the bottom of the lever and make a bigger loop.  Here are 2 that my brother & I made:

id opt for the DRC, BUT you can hardly get em... watch the levergun forums and sometimes they pop up used but you gotta be fast on the draw. the DRCs go quick!

that said, make your own, or you may want to call grizzly custom guns. he makes one that is kinda in between the DRC and WWG levers but i am not sure if he would sell you one off the gun. i think most of the time he wants to install it. being that you are out of the country, that may not be feasible...

I agree with most everyone else the DRC is not to large but large enough for heavy winter gloves. The large levers like Wild West aren't practical for hunting, too much slop between the gloves and lever. This one I bought from Dave (DRC) before my Alasken hunt and I am very happy with it.

I went to David R Clay custom guns, look like a gun web site but when i click
on "say" sporting guns i get "how to get my free food", and all kinds of crap
not to do with guns.
I think it would be fairly easy to make the fac. loop big enough.
that wildwest is just too wild for me.
