Reloading for the 45ACP.

It's been a while since I've reloaded some ammo for the 45ACP.  I remember there being some brass that used a small pistol primer and others that used a large pistol primer.  Is there one type of primer size for brass that's better than the other for reloading?  I appreciate the help before I get back into that caliber.

I do not know about the small Primers.
All of my brass is (are) large primer brass.
I think there were some rounds called either 45 Thompson or the 45 super that the case was 45ACP but they had some internal diff and were loaded to 45 mag velocities.  1250+ with 230 grain ball.
And those cases may have taken the small primer.  Not sure.  need to check what sources I have at home in the gun library.

I stumbled onto a 45acp case awhile back which has a small primer pocket.

The head stamp is "45 AUTO WIN NT"

Maybe the "NT" has something to do with the small pocket.?.?.??

Not sure if I tried to seat a large primer with no luck, but it came from a batch of range brass and is the only one I have ever seen.

 I thought it was some of the lead free ammo that used the small primer. I bought about 1000 empties from a guy on a different site & I have yet to see a case that takes the small primer. So far I've used Tightgroup & H Universal with my plated 200 grn RN bullets. I also bought a mold to try when it warms up.

 NT = 'non-toxic' maybe??

Yep , as far as I know , all Domesticlly made NT ammo is being loaded in small primer case's , not only are the bullets being used non-toxic = no lead , but the primers are said to be non-toxic as well .

Still don't think I want shot with them though !

Guess I would load em up with small pistol primers if and when I found a bunch of them.

The only bad part would be keeping them separated from the "normal" cases,

Stimpy is right. I've run into several batch's of the sm. primer. Bad part is, when I'm on the Dillion, and your cruising along, and all of a sudden, on the up stroke, it feels funny, and the primer doesn't seat. I've seperated that brass, will load them with my hand primer, and try and keep them segragated from the rest. Nothing wrong with them, just have to keep a mental note of them. Unfortuneatley, the sticky notes in my brain have run out of glue and keep falling to my, nevermind!  gypsyman

Is it treatable?

Maybe a good dose of castor oil or Spring Tonic?

I'm think'in it is getting serious when one has a defective nevermind.
