20 ga Pardner Choke
« on: February 05, 2010, 06:30:29 PM »
Hi All,

My defenses are slowly, slowly weakening and I think I may end up getting a Pardner in 20 ga. I want to use it for squirrel and maybe deer if it shoots slugs halfway decent. The question is, which choke should I get, Full or Modified? How far will the Modified shoot for squirrel hunting and can I shoot slugs out of a Full choke?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, you can shoot slugs out of a full choke. My personal preference for an all around shotgun choke is a modified. My 20 gauge Pardner wears a MOD choke for deer, squirrel, ducks, partridge etc. The only time I change it is for turkey season when I put a turkey choke in it but even then I could do with a MOD and actually did the first turkey season that I used it.

I also would suggest a modified choke....<><....:)

I had read your post and could have replied sooner but I wanted to see other opinions  before I gave mine. I agree with both of them. The modified choke will cleanly take small game out to 30 yds and will accurately shoot slugs,  but you will have to determine the distance you are comfortable with.

Modified choke 20ga is all I had for a long time and it took countless squirrel, deer and just about every small game and waterfowl found in Delaware and and the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
