Corn was a problem in my area also.  I was fortunate to take 2 does for the freezer.  One with a handgun and the other with a muzzle loader.  I was hunting private property.

I did see 14 turkeys one day and 3 on another day.  Plus after a fresh snow fall I spotted what I believe to be bobcat tracks following some turkey tracks.  My turkey application was applied for and I am waiting for that warmer weather.

I got an eight pointer 1/2 hour before dark on the last day I was hunting firearm season. That was it, everyone else in the party got skunked.

I ended up with six...two bucks and four does.  If you look on here somewhere, you will see the very large forkhorn that I got with my pistol.

BTW, I am also in west central Illinois

The morning I shot the doe with my pistol I also hit a doe with my Jeep on the way to my hunting spot, but since it didn't knock her down, I didn't count her  ;)
