Where is the Unique Powder?
« on: January 27, 2010, 06:00:21 AM »
I have been looking for a pound (Just 1 pound!) of Unique powder to use in loading my .30-30's with 150 gr. cast bullets.  I have checked with 3 local stores, including Gander Mountain.  Nobody has it or has had it lately.  Is this typical thruout the country or is it just a local phenomenon?  I was able to trade with a friend to get all he had, about 3-4 oz.

I went to three different stores to buy powder last weekend.  Between the three of them they had less then 20 bottles of powder.  Over half of what they had was muzzle loader powder.

Unique is a universal powder.  People are going to buy it to replace a lot of other stuff that isn't available.  Universal or Universal Clays will be similar burn rate.  Most of the shotgun ranges carry these if the local stores dont have any.  Just an option for you to look at.

Wal-Mart had a good stock of it on Monday this week, in Ponderay, Idaho.

Cabela's in Post Falls, Idaho had plenty last Saturday.

Powder I got, it's primers that are scarce.

New York State Walmarts don't carry powder, primers or guns.  We are lucky they still carry ammo, but supplies are always low!

Bought a case of WLP primers and a case of WSP primers tonight as well as several powders.  The shelves were full and there was stock of every powder I was looking for.   Didn't look for Unique, so I don't know, but he had 1 pounders, 4 pounders and 8 pounders of Bullseye.

I bought a 4lb. last week from Powder Valley.  They were out of the 1lb. size, but thought I better get some while I could.  They actually had CCI small rifle primers!

Where did you get full cases of WLP and WSP primers?  (Box is 100, carton is 1000, sleeve is 5,000, case is 50,000)

I have had Winchester primers on order since March and my vendor cannot get them.  We finally started getting some CCIs, but most of them are coming direct from Lewiston.

Sorry Steve , when I say case, I mean 5000.  If you call that a sleeve, than fine.   Sent you a PM

Well I should feel fortunate. Our little store in remote AK has some 4 lb jugs of Unique. I've been telling myself to grab one while I can. Hard to get used to paying $34/ lb for it when I still have cans that say $18!  They have a few cans of other Alliant powder too, 10x, RX15, 19, 22 I think. And some H4198 and a bigger container of 4064 - don't know the weight, and   1 lb cans of Accurate 1680.

Saw some Unique today in a little store that just started carrying reloading supplies. $18/lb it was. Highest on any powder was $22 or maybe $23.  Paid $22/lb of H4198.

Primers were $32/1000. No small pistol standard primers. Lots of small pistol magnums. Interesting, few Winchesters, lots of Federal and CCI, no Remingtons, no Magtech.

One of the local stores received 1 lb. and I bought it yesterday for $21.95.  Where do you live Sweetwater?  I'd like to pay that store a visit.

Sandpoint, Idaho

the little store is at 808 Lake St, called Wrenco Arms. They just started handling reloading supplies, so I'll be curious if these prices will hold, or steadily climb to match or exceed the folks in Coeur D'alene, etc

I bought a 4lb. last week from Powder Valley.  They were out of the 1lb. size, but thought I better get some while I could.

A couple of my buddies and I did the same thing.
One lives just south of them about an hours.
He's picking it all up and meeting us in OKC.

Also picked up few thousand primers from them.
My buddy said the order is ready and he'd deliver them this weekend.

Sometimes you just gotta shop.
We got Gene Sears store right over in El Reno which almost always has stock.
But during the recent rush on components he's even been hit and miss.
