Springer Scope
« on: February 01, 2010, 05:02:16 AM »
Have been doing a bit of reading here and else where about scopes on springers.
Shoulders don't permit me to pump the pumpers sufficiently anymore so I picked up an entry level Beeman combo at Wallyworld.
It came with a scope. I think it is marked BSA but not sure.
The question is will the springer destroy this scope as I have read about of is this safe to mount as it came with the springer?

It came with the airgun, so put it on the airgun.  The airgun manufacturer believes it will work, so give it a try.  If it self-destructs, go and get a better airgun scope.  Be sure to tighten the rings because the scope will move backward from the recoil if the rings are too loose.

I double checked and the scope is marked Beeman 4X32.

That should cinch it then.  Put it on the gun already  :), and don't forget to give us a range report when you start using it.

Ok.
How do I go about sighting the scope in?

Hi Doc623:

You are better off just plinking with the rifle untill you put about 500 rounds through the rifle.  Spring guns, as you have read, tend to kill scopes.  However, they are at their worst before they are broken in.  They shake rattle and roll until they break in, sometimes they never stop, in which case good luck trying to hit anything with one like that.  However, most will be broken in after about a thousand rounds are fired through it.

If you have iron sights I would use them for a while, if not just shoot the thell out of it, and then mount the scope.  The more rounds you shoot before you mount the scope the better.  However, some mount the scope right off the bat and never have a problem, others have to send the scope back, and wait for a new one...............

Just my 2 cents here, do as you want

Jim

I finally broke down and bought an air rifle scope, I got tired of my mod 350 destroying regular scopes. I purchased a BSA AR27X32 scope, It's a variable from 2.5 to 7 power, I really like it, the Parallax goes from 7.5 yards to infinity. It seems to be a well built scope, it weighs a tad over 1lb, I had to make a second trip to the gun shop for higher rings to accomodate the bell, other than that no problems, BTW purchase price total was 75.00, and I'm planning to give those varmints H--L this spring, LOL

I think that the fixed power scopes tend to be a little more durable than the variable power scopes, especially if they're cheaper ones.
I'm using a 4X fixed Center Point by Crosman and it's holding up really well. I usually just check the front lens ring once in while to insure that it stays tight.

I have had three "airgun" scopes on springers...

The first was a BEEMAN 4X. It lasted about a dozen shots out of my then new RWS 34. So much foir that scope... I replaced it with a 6X18AO Bushnell Trophy. That one was and still is just fine. I moved it to another 22rimfire for accuracy testing.

I replaced it with a BSA 2x7AO airgun scope. Its been working great and has lasted thru a couple tins of pellets....
