 I like mine okay, but it's so dang heavy I have to hire a gun bearer every time I take it out...

The Egyptian Hakim is a behometh but it sure can spit out the 8mm rounds really good.  If we compare these to the lighter firearms like the sks and ak47's what a difference is weigh there is but its a big difference in stopping power too.  Its kind of a trade off.

Now i read there has been some accidents with hakims again recently.  Some say again its an out of battery firing but the little interupter lever won't allow it to fire unless its in full battery with the bolt carrier fully closed.  I still say like i said many years ago its the gas valve not being properly adjusted to the ammo your using.  Thats the biggest problem.  The bolt carrier can pull the bolt back before the bullet leaves the barrel hitting the shooter in the face with the 50k breech pressure.  This isn't a good situation to be in.  Its also using the right ammo in the hakim too.  You need a lot of upfront knowledge before to attempt to shoot a hakim safely.  I'm sure because of the posts about the so called out of battery firings we will see many hakims go up for sale again.

as 1911Crazy points out   """"firing but the little interupter lever won't allow it to fire unless its in full battery with the bolt carrier fully closed"""""

UH-HUH  unless of course yoru little interupter lever tends to stick.......then if you are not good with a dremel your "stuffed".  And as a badge to my credit I DID NOT remove too much metal.  Thank god my Polish brian made the connection and went....HMMMMM......My Hakim #1 is back whipping 196Gr smokers down the range with the utmost of efficiency.

SO, if you ugly old sorry hind ended Egyptian date tree stake is not welcome at your house you can PM me for mailing directions and the rough COST of postage and HANDLING.  Unlike Ebay I can handle a high handling charge  ;)  (There is a hint buried in here you see)

I have 2 Hakims and my advice is too hang on to it.  The ol Egyptian Beauties are a hit at the range during Machine gun shoot day, milsurp day or any gathering.  You know when I REALLY like the Hakim??  When Joe Ar-15 is shooting his 55 grain tweakers at the 100 yard gong.  There is always some bubba who has no hearing muffs on.....I line up the 12 pound monster...get a few side glances and sneers....then KERRRRFREAKINBOOOOMMMMM.  If you have shot it you understand ;D ;D ;D :o   Bubba scurries real fast to get some kleenex to stuff in his ears!!!!!

I layed that dang Gong a swinging like you wouldn't believe.  The Ar was set down to await my fun!  The MG mag was awfully cool that day as well!  20+ rounds in 8mm, VERY convincing.  I will never get rid of it.  Bill, I was shooting the Yugo 1982 surplus...absolutely Sweet in the Hakim.....next is Romanian.

KEEP her and shoot her.  Strip that shiny stuff off of it though......yuck  ;)

Just watch the grass infront of the bench when you shoot it.  The muzzle blast is awesome and so is the sound too.  Everyone should have one or more of these.

Like S.S. says watch your fingers when that bolt carrier slams shut it has no respect for flesh.

 This one's much easier to handle (only ~9#) and the ammo's cheaper. One of five Anschutz made Hakim air rifle trainers I've got...

 They've got this cool pirate thingy on them too...

One minute they say this surplus ammo is ok the next its bad for the hakim.  Years ago i even shot the turk 8mm ammo out of my hakim.  I won't say how its adjusted so no one will try it.  Maybe i got lucky and survived.  There was one poster here who shot both the hakim and the fn49 with the turk ammo too.

I have used the fn surplus 8mm/yugo 8mm  with success in my hakim and the PMC 170gr 8mm sp ammo too.  With all the different brands of surplus 8mm ammo i think the 8mm turk ammo is the hottest one and shouldn't be used in the hakim or any other semi auto 8mm rifle.

Just be sure to readjust the gas valve to ther ammo your shooting.

To adjust the gas valve on the hakim/rasheed;

You turn the gas valve all the way clockwise till it stops thats fully closed.  Then you open it up one click counter clockwise.  And fire one round only with the mag inplace.  If it cycles ok and the bolt carrier locks back open "last round fired empty mag"  it should be ok at the 1 click open.  Then load two rounds and test it again.  If it cylces ok then go with a full mag.  If it seems sluggish (bolt carrier) then open it one more click counter clockwise.

Do not open it fully open all the way.  Then you have too much gas going thru the system away too early.  Having it all the way open doesn't cover all the  different brands ammo.  You need to adjust it to the ammo your presently using.
And readjust it when you change to a different brand of ammo.  While 1 click open seems to be the norm your gun may differ.  Do It Right besafe.
