IMR 4895 and Hornady SSP Bullets have always worked for me, takes down deer just fine, Start with about 26 gr.s and work up for your gun. Hope this helps. Mine barrel is a 14" Encore barrel from David Van Horn, super accurate.

My very limited experience supports Steve's comments. IMR 4895 and the 139 Hornadys do great for me. I also had good results with the Sierra flatbase 140 spitzer, also using IMR 4895.

My son uses the 139 Hornady's, but prefers H-335.

My barrel is factory, and after a failed experiment by the previous owner with an aftermarket muzzle brake, it's now 13".

An opinion... I would think that barrel length would definately play a part in load selection.
As I prefer 10" barrels, I USUALLY start with the faster range of appropriate powders.  The faster powder/shorter barrel thing doesn't always work out, though, from an accuracy OR velocity standpoint.  It pays to experiment.
Right now, my preferred load for our smallish (usually <100#) whitetails is a Nosler 120gr Ballistic Tip, over 30gr AA 2460.
I do find that the ballistic tips tend to perform more in the manner of a controlled expansion bullet, when fired at 7TCU velocities, as compared to their more explosive nature when launched from my .280 Rem. FWIW,,,,,,,,,Bug.
