Shot the 7-08 today.
« on: February 04, 2010, 10:02:11 AM »
Finally got a day off from work and it's good weather so off to the range I go. I am shooting 140gr. Power Points and have a 3-9x50 Simmons mounted in Warne rings.
I had the targets set up at 50yds and was shooting off the bench.
First shots after bore sighting were 3" high and center on the bull.
I made 2 adjustments to get it into the bull and let the barrel cool.
I shot two 5 shot strings for grouping and checked the targets.
Each 5 shot group can be covered with a nickel. I'd say it's gonna shoot OK. ;D
I can see why most of you sing the praises of the 7-08. Watch out deer. ;)

Way ta go Spanky.  I did that yesterday with my new Handi .223.  Today, I just shot it off the back porch rail kneeling, no other rest, and nailed the 300 yard gong with 4 consecutive shots.  100%.  I'm lovin' it.  Come on Mr. Wiley Coyote.

Get one Andy. I read alot of posts on here about the 7-08 having recoil like a 243 and shooting great groups. It's true. It really does recoil like a 243 or 30-30 and does shoot great. I like it. ;D

I am glad it is going to be a shooter for you Spanky. You will love it. Before long you will be singing the praises like everyone else, and watch the deer fall like magic next winter.

Sounds like another great 7mm-08 shooter!  That is like the 308, seems to be a good one most of the time.  I have 5 different 7mm-08's and 4 are dead accurate, :-* haven't shoot the 5th one yet but as it's a Tikka T-3 Lite, I'm sure it will as well.  Andy, better get on board with one quick! ;)   DP

Actually I do have a 7mm-08, but it's not an H&R. I have a Browning BLR in 7mm-08. I like the cartridge and the Browning is a fine gun but I also want a Handi barrel in 7mm-08...I think I would use it more if I was not as worried about scratching up a fancy gun....<><....:)

Good job! The 7-08 is my favorite Handi in the safe. Hope you post some critter pics once you take it to the woods. Brent

I hear ya Andy, always very careful with my BLR's. :o  My 7mm-08 BLR loves the factory 140gr Win Failsafes better than anything else I loaded. :-[  DP
