Slugging My B.C 45-70
« on: February 03, 2010, 03:00:13 PM »
I slugged my B.C today was just wondering what others that have done this have got for a groove diameter. I ended up with .4560 even. Was thinking this was abit on the tight side.

Yes, that is a bit small.  Not that that is a bad thing, it just is.  Your bullets will seal well!

If you are going to cast, that should make sizing and bullet fit pretty easy.  My bore is .4575, which I think is "normal".

But bores vary, and can vary greatly.  I've had 357s that ran from .3555 to .3595.  My 45s (handguns) run from .448 to .4528, so you never know until you measure.  Unless the bore is really large, and unless you're going to shoot lead it really doesn't make much difference.

One of my 45-70 barrels won't allow a .452" bullet to drop thru, two others do. Is .456" the groove diameter or land? If groove it is indeed tight.
