odd question

is there any reason i couldnt seat bullets in a .22-250 in a different die? i am waiting on my dies to come in but with this storm it will be a while. i was thinking i could pass time by reloading. i have a ton of already sized brass and thought i would just seat the bullets with a .243 or .25-06 seating die. is there some reason i shouldn't? maybe runout? or does the seating die play no role in keeping the neck and bullet aligned?

guess i just wanna know if the seater does anything else but press the bullet in. i know it has a caliber-specific hole in the stem but if i could adjust it down, any die SHOULD work. unless it also does something to keep the neck straight with the bullet.

cant tell by taking my dies apart if this is so.

Mine seats and crimps, but I don't use the crimp on my 22-250.

i dont crimp anything i load. the only way i would is if i shot a ridiculously hard kicking rifle or if i had something that fed from a tube.

otherwise i shoot uncrimped and i also do not turn necks. i can get my rifles down to 1/2" or so regularly without it so i skip it.

Pull the seating stem on the 25-06 and see how a 224 bullet fit's, I'd worry if the bullet was a sptzer or something with a plastic tip that it might not push straight, but if the stem settles on the ogive I'd guess you'll be ok, only thing you can do is try a few, roll'm an see if they wobble

Seat one without primer and powder. Then roll it on a flat surface, like someone on another recent string suggested, to check for wobble.

You could seat with a Straw and wood dowel if your not crimping
I wouldn't think twice about it,you did say the brass is all ready sized ?

You could start the bullet by hand and then hit it with a 2X4 also ( PLEASE DO NOT DO IT )
BUT THAT WOULD BE THE WRONG TOOL FOR THE JOB---(correct ? ) Say yes.--good.
  Seating dies are made to hold the case neck in close proximity two the bullet being reloaded.
This is to help reduce bullet run out. I think you would be better to hold off for the correct tool for the job, and perhaps kill the time in another way.
  Remember consistency in reloading is the key, so what would be gained by loading the way you propose and then doing it again with a different tool ?

Think you can see .003 run out by rolling on a piece of glass ? Try it and then use the proper tool tool,
to test for run out, and see how good you eye is.

i decided to hold off until the dies come in, for the same reason. i am sure the runout would be too great.
