With the exception of 3006, 30-30, and 22LR, what is your favorite caliber?

Since you ruled out my favorite all around Cal., I'll go with the 6.5x55. The 6.5x55 with it's mild recoil, and inherent accuracy will take most of North America's big game animals with no problem.

The 6.5x55 Swede has taken more moose in Europe, than any other cal, and would be my pick after the 06.
Bullet placement is #1, and since most big game is taken under 150 yards, it still has plenty of FPE left to do the job. Sooooooooo many good calibers out there :)

Freedom Of Speech.....Once we lose it, every other freedom will follow.

When I was 12 the Ole Man had me use a 03A3 for my first deer rifle

Many decades later, its still my go to caliber.

Used 30-06, just made my own rifle, to see if I could

Favorite?  .260 Remington.  Had a .308 and had it rebarreled to the .260.  Better long-range trajectory, more energy past 600yds (although I'm not going to hunt with it at those ranges), less wind drift, and less recoil.  Barrel life isn't as good, but it is better than the 6.5x284s.

.308 is a good cartridge though.

I presently have five hunting rifles, two 30/30's, a 6.5x55, a .303 Brit, and a .358 Winchester. If I were honest with myself I could sell any four and happily hunt the rest of by life with whichever one was left.

7.62x39.
No bears, lions, or rhinos (etc.) here, I hunt deer with a bow, and the soviet round does just what I want it to.

Also like .303, .308, .223, .22 mag, .44 mag (not counting the 30.06 and 30-30 as per OP)

well, you ruled out 30-06.
308 is great.
There's so many good choices. like 6.5/260
However, for me, favorite is 7mm Rem. Mag..
Plenty of rifle manufacturers, plenty of bullet weights and designs and plenty of factory ammo.
With the right set up, will take everything from groundhogs to grizzlies.  In a pinch will take African game as well.

A fine is for doing something bad.  A tax is for doing something good.  I have to stop being so good.

.375 H&H Magnum. Mine is a 1937 Winchester Model 70, great rifle, great caliber. It has been said, and probably is true that the .375 is the most versatile caliber in the world.  It produces a lot of energy with very mild recoil for a rifle in this power range.
