So yesterday I got out at about 1:30pm. Called at my first spot, and heard saw nothing.
Went to my second spot accross the river probably 3/4 mile away from the first spot as the crow flies.
Start with the distress once. Wait. Wait some more. Try again. Nothing.
Then I start with a howl and barks with a big call and a little call.
Did it a second time about 10 min later.
Out of my periferal view I see one, two, three dogs coming down the edge of the field at a gallop coming in and to my left.
Hoe Leeee Shnykeees
My first successful calling. It was so freaking cool. Big beautiful dogs too. If there wasn't snow on the ground I might not've even seen them. UN believable.
I was on the side of a wooded hill looking down into and across a field. They were prob 150 yds out. I had lots of tree branches from the hillside in front of me. They were right out in the open on the far edge. They ran past the base of the hill and i never saw them again, nor circle around, come in closer, nothing.
Wind was right in my face most of the time but it was changing direction now and again because I was checking thinking they were going to come in from behind. I obviously set up in the wrong spot too high up the hill, but otherwise it's flat and you have no vantage point.
Anyway, no shot fired but I can't wait to get back out again.
Based on what I've described, where would you have set up or done differently?
