Over the coarse of time I have been a member here, many have stated the need to go for annual checkups and get your health in order.
Where I work we have a physical every year, EKG, chest xray, hearing, blood pressure, etc.  All of this is good, so get in and get out.
What is not good is the self diagnosing of problems or symtoms we may have and not answering all the questions we may be asked because it will take to long or is inconvenient. The questionare sheet is long and time consuming so most breeze through it without all the right answers to the questions. The questions and answers are more important than the test in a lot of cases.
Over the past few months I have overlooked some symtoms that should have pointed out a serious condition. Because I dont smoke or drink and am not to bad over weight I thought them to be the results of the flu.
Wendsday Feb 10 I had a heart attack. With the modern technology of todays health system I was home Friday evening.
Everything seems to be going well now.
My confession would be, I am a fool. This should not have happened the way it did. I should have listened and gone to the doctor a long time ago.
Take the time to ask questions and look at your health it may save you a lot of money and pain or more.

Seems we are all guilty of this from time to time.
I'm glad yours wasn't anymore seriuos.

Guilty as charged! Thanks for the kick in the pants. My wife has been after me for over a year to get checked - it's been 5 years since we had insurance - or a Dr visit. "got money for what I want, so....."

Brierpatch:  Hope all goes well with your recovery.  I was very fortunate, I got caught on the morning, before I was to take two teenage boys on an extended outing.  I did not have a heartattack, but according to the Doctor, I was ready to.  One by-pass and two stints later, I'm still hanging in there. 

Glad to see you post this, after my experience I try and tell everyone to go get tested and to be honest about your health.  And pay attention to the colestrol numbers.

Glad to see you are doing ok.
I get upset with my DR. some times, he requires me to come in every 6 mos,
weather i think i need it or not. Blood work, general look and poke, then
once a year is physical time ( i do hate that)
I guess i will keep going after reading your post ( weather i need to or not)

 I was feeling good with very minor symptoms nothing but decided to get checked up when i had to take a buddy to the dr for a test. Got LUCKY the test indicated another test needed and they found the main artery to the left side of the heart was over 90% plugged and did a immediate bypass. Still recovering. The doc, when i asked about the lack of problems, told me that in the majority of cases the first major symptom in cases like mine is a massive and fatal heart attack. GET CHECKED even when it seems like nothing.

I am guilty as well for putting off the signs as mere indigestion or heartburn.   It caught up to me Jan 28, 2010.   Luckily no serious damage - did the cardiac cath/rotorooter thing and I was out in 48 hrs.   The rest is just taking my meds, lose weight, get more excercise.  I feel lucky and blessed that the good Lord gave me a wakeup call.    I will heed his warning.

Briarpatch, hope you have a quick recovery. It must be in the male dna. We're all guilty of it. The monty python skit, were the lumberjack gets his arm cut off, and tells the guys, it's only a flesh wound, and I'll be back to work later today. Several years back, I went down with something. Don't know what. The wife literally had me laying in the back of our mini van, and took me to the emergency room. Several hours later, and a Big Mac hamburger, I walked out and got a cab ride home, as the wife took the boys home around 11pm. To this day, don't know what hit me, but I wasn't going to stay in that hospital.
We have a blood pressure meter, so about 1-2 a week, I see what mine is. Most of the time it's pretty good, in the normal range, and when I get my colestrol checked, it's usally around 200. I should probably go and have a full complete check up done, and find out how bad my arteries are. I just hate spending the money,(we have a health savings account, and the first $2000 is out of my pocket) And, I know what some will say, it's cheaper than a funeral. Maybe sometime here in the next couple months. gypsyman
