Fore end & receiver problem
« on: February 08, 2010, 11:32:33 AM »
I bought a handi in 270 about a month ago.  When I got home and inspected the gun more closely, I found that the fore end was a bit loose on the receiver.  I sent it back to H&R.  The gun came back today 2/8/2010 and the fore end is still a tad loose on the receiver.  I have yet to fire the rifle.  Would it be safe to fire it or should I send it to H&R for a second repair attempt?

Welcome! You can even shoot the rifle without the forend, it will not affect safety, but how tight it fits does affect accuracy. Spend some time reading in the FAQs and Help sticky and make sure you read the Handi Basics 101, then with the additional knowledge you've gained and hopefully applied to the rifle, head to the range, then post a range report.  ;)

Another welcome, Tim is SOO right,,,you gotta read this stuff,,

http://www.gboreloaded.com/forums/index.php/topic,26264.0.html

There is a ton of info,,a total help guide to the handi.  Use that "control F" feature and type in "forend" or anything else,,you'll never have to send your gun back again,,and you'll likley git it shooting better than factory. :D

Apologies, I didn't communicate the problem clearly.  The hardwood fore end handle is not the problem.  The barrel & receiver connection is a tad loose. There is lateral give between the receiver and barrel with the action closed.  Is that safe?
