Where to shoot?
« on: November 11, 2009, 06:13:05 AM »
Hi All!  I live in Carrollton Ga.  Would like to shoot smallbore silhouettes, but I don't know where.  Can anyone help?  I don't want to travel any further than I have to, within reason.  I have an appropriate and safe place whwere a range could be set up if there is any interest.
Thanks for your time.

Thanks!  was of some help.  Couldn't find much on Silhouettes though.  I am also interested in any off hand style SB shooting.  NRA Light Rifle comes to mind.   Or anything similar.  3-position and prone doesn't interest me.  Thanks again

The info SHOULD be available on the NRA site or thru them. I looked around and failed to find it tho there are several clubs in the area. I used to shoot silhouette over in GA many years ago. The guys at Advance Bullets might know. You may have to call the NRA to find out the info. They sanction the matches and should know all the clubs that hold matches.

Thanks.  Been up to Advanced Bullets.  They used to hold silhouette matches, but now only shotgun/clay shoots.  They couldn't help.  I see a couple on NRA site Hiawassee Ga, and Dolthan Ala.  But they are like 2 to 3 hours away.  I just would like some competition,  someone to shoot with/against. I have a place to set up a range and could put on matches.  I even have silhouettes.

Thanks again

On the NRA sight go to the magazine section. In shooting Sports online they will list where matches are held.

On another silhouette forum they show a US map with silhouette range locations

I have a page on my website that specifically lists High Power and Smallbore Rifle Silhouette ranges/clubs, including the contact information or website of the clubs.

I would like to add a couple of things.  There are a few sites out there that on the surface seem to be informative.  Unfortunately they seem to have done no research into what is actually shot by the club and or range they are listing.  At several websites listing ranges and clubs, a large number of places listed for Rifle Silhouette actualy shot pistol silhouette only.  That is one of the reasons I was pushing myself to set up the page I did.  The purpose of my website is to help those who are just hearing about the sport so I want to help them find out where they can try it.  I am almost finished in verifying all of the information.  What I am trying to do is end up with a complete list of the clubs and ranges which are offering specifically Smallbore and High Power Rifle Silhouette, the basis of my website.

Another point to make is there are a large amount of clubs and ranges with website that do not make a point of what disiplines are practiced and/or clearly where the range or club is located.  If you are going to put a website up to provide information, please provide the most important part.  Some provide cartoon maps and/or cartoon instructions on how to find them.  Sometimes go north actually means go east...ever hear of Google, Mapquest, Virtual Earth, Google Earth, GPS, Yahoo Maps, MSN Maps or Rand McNally?

In conclusion if you know of a club or range shooting Rifle Silhouette that I am not listing, please provide the information to me at RifleSilhouette@cox.net
