skin staplers
« on: February 08, 2010, 01:32:55 AM »
Not sure if this is in the right forum.

I just found skin staplers on ebay for about $7 each.  Single use disposables with a few dozen staples.  Looks like a good item to have in the pack.  It's much easier to staple yourself than it is to stitch yourself, particularly if you have to do it one handed because of the nature of the cut (think broadhead cut to the hand, that's a common one).

I've been looking for a good staple/suture set up for a while.  The one use job is less than I wanted, but the price is right and it will get me through a situation if need be.

Thought I'd share it with you guys.  Just search 'skin staple' on ebay.

I use them extensively. In the safari industry somebody is always getting cut...and in a region where 50-90% of Adults are HIV positive...Even with gloves on I want as little mucking arround with a bleeding wound as possible.

Also they are marketed as single use...but very easy to sterilise and keep using.

Last thought - Putting the sutures in is virtually painless- I have often put a few into my arm to demonstrate them to learner Professional Hunters...taking them out...now that hurts if you don't have the very special tool! Again, I have taken them out of my arm with my leatherman..and gone and bought the suture removal tool!

Don's point is good, the staple removal tools are also available and came up on the same search.
