I am planing on getting a Beeman P-3 and would like to know what it needs for basic maintenance. I plan on keeping it for the long haul.

Hi Ivan--

Great choice for an air pistol. I know you're gonna love this piece. Bought my P3 last March for varmit chasing (as oppossed to killing since it's really not a very powerful sporting pistol like the P1), plinking and 10M target shooting. I'm also using it to teach my 9-year-old daughter how to shoot.

Like most air pistols, this single-stroke pneumatic requires very little maintenance. Every couple of months, depending on how much you shoot it, you'll have to do the obligatory oiling of the moving joints of the cocking arm. Use a good air gunning lubrication oil. Crosman PellOil is good. Careful not to over oil, though! Sometimes drops of oil can drip down, spilling onto the pneumatic pumping arm and enter the air chamber, oiling the seals. You don't want this to happen. Keep things dry inside around that ol' pumping arm.

About every 50 rounds or so, I shoot 3 cleaning pellets through it to keep the bore clean. About every 500 rounds, I run a couple of patches through. Use a silicone cloth to keep things tidy outside and you're in business.

Oh, I got a coupon from Beeman when I ordered my P3 for a 5 year tune-up for $5 which I'll take advantage of since I'll have many rounds fired through it by then.

If there's an o-ring at the breech, you will need to replace it every few thousand shots or so. The rest has already been said.

this is a fantistic pistol. A lor of fun and accurate as hell. The gun is good for plinking ihmsa and 10 eter shooting me I use mine to shoot my crosman bell ringer target (you hit the 10 ring a small bell in the back of the trap rings.
nice gun keep up the good news now you need a P1. A month agop I would have said I would spent that kind of money on a pistol. Well the P3 changed all that. I mean if this was what Beeman could do for $150 what could they do for $300. Well $300 was a little stiff So I searched for a used one which I found for $220 shipped and it even came with a beeman model 20 pistol club.
