Butt stock .22lr Ammo Sleeve Holder?
« on: January 25, 2010, 11:15:47 AM »
I got my little brother his first gun for Christmas - a NEF .22lr Sportster. We stepped out to go hunting over the weekend and I could not find a convenient place to hold the .22 shells. Is there a butt stock ammo sleeve to hold the shells? If not, what do you use to quickly replace the spent shells from the gun?

Any ideas and input is greatly appreciated  ;D

I don't think so.  I looked for one for my 17M2 and wasn't able to find one.  I stick two extra shells in the holes of the recoil pad and keep the rest in my pocket.

I don't know of any buttstock ammo sleeve for .22's - at least I couldn't find any.

After rummaging around in my "stuff" for a while I found an old leather .22 belt slide made by the Hunter Holster company that holds 12 rounds.

I then took a leather bootlace and sort of laced it onto the side of the buttstock.  Took only a few minutes experimenting how best to tie it on and now it fits on nice and secure.

As a bonus, I think it looks better than the black nylon cartridge carriers - personal opinion of course!

There's a thread way back that had a reply by someone that ran a stitch up the middle of each loop on a rifle or shotgun butt cuff cartridge carrier that made the loops perfect for rimfire ammo, one on each side of the stitch, how good are ya at sewing?... or can ya talk your wife into doing it for ya?  ;D

I made a shell holder as someone suggested for my 22 mag/17hmr shells.
I got a nylon rifle stock cartridge holder by Allen with 5 sleeves ~30 cal.
Sewed each pocket through the middle giving me 10 pockets on the top side and 10 on the bottom side. Also, sew the pockets in half .
In short you sew the pockets in the middle both ways
I works great for the mag/ 17 and I just tried 22 lr cartridge and it works well for them also

Thank you all for the replies. I was hoping they made one for a .22  ???

I just purchased a regular nylon ammo sleeve and I am going to stitch it up.

Here's an idea:  The local hardware has peel-and-stick-on "bit" holders, sponge rubbers blocks with holes for holding interchangeable screwdriver bits.  Here, they're at the checkout where they put the impulse-buy shtuff.

You can make a 'tolerable' one with a strip of leather and a leather punch of the right size to slip the cartridge in/out of and still be secure. I hung one off my jacket pocket with a keyring or make a neck loop.
I suppose you could even hang it off the sling swivel.
