Best car chase scene in movie?
« on: February 10, 2010, 02:39:21 AM »
I think the car chases in The Blues Brothers were the best. Conducting a car chase through a busy shopping mall was a comedy classic. Then the chase where all the cop cars go off the same spot of highway and pile up in one big pile was funny too.

Maybe not the best but Steve Mcqueen and the movie Bullit immediately came to mind.

Lots of them out there, and Steve McQueen in the Mustang is up there.

A memorable one to me was in Against All Odds, there's a pretty good race between a Porsche 911 and a Ferrari 308 (?). Haven't seen the movie in 20 years, but I found the clip on youtube....

The French Connection.  While maybe not two cars chasing each other, a commandeered Le Mans chasing an elevated train made for some good action.  Plus, the traffic situation was realistic.  We all know what it's like to drive in bad city traffic, not to mention in the wrong lane under an elevated train platform.  The realism of the situation made it all the more intense.  I mean, how many of us actually have jumped cars over uneven streets like in some of these crazy car chase scenes?  (OK, maybe once here or there)

Plus, the shooting scene at the end was a little more realistic than most modern day movies where guys endure the unreal and even dodge bullets.  Here and exhausted Popeye Doyle (Gene Hackman) just shoots the bad guy in the back, right through the heart and it's all over.

Best?
Recently---The bourne Connection or the idenity--can't remember.
French Connection was the most realistic that comes to memory along with above.
The best one that I like is Bullit.
They are all worth another look. ;D

There were a couple I thought were fun:
The Gumball Rally, about a cross country endurance automotive and motorcycle race, and a good comedy
Smokey and the Bandit, I think. Basically Jackie Gleason as a cop chasing a guy with a Trans Am.

Yeah, "the guy" was Burt Renolds.
Funny movie back then but I bet if I watched it today I'd think otherwise.  .....CORNY!!
Jackie Gleason, however, is always a funny guy.

Of all the car chases in movies, "Ronin" typically goes unmentioned.  It is listed in most film critics best-chases-of-all-time lists.
It's on my list as well.
Just my Awf Hand comments...
