I'm looking to upgrade from my hand me down Oregon bow. Visited the local pro-shop this morning and came away impressed with two or three bows. One was a BowTech Patriot with VFT. The other two were Mathews, one and FX and the other an LX. The LX is just a pipe dream. I'd have to sell my rifle and hire a divorce lawyer if I bought that one. So it's down to a BowTech Patriot and a Matthews FX. Any opinions? I could also go for a used Mathews Q2 or SQ2, but I prefer to buy new and from a pro-shop.

I think you're close. Since it's not a well known (new?) company there are probably no educated opinions.

Thanks, that helps. I'm new to archery this year and I had no idea that it was a new company. Appreciate the information.

Just because they are new wouldn't mean they are junk. The were founded in 1999. http://www.bowtecharchery.com/
Being fairly new they have a lifetime warranty, which is pretty nice.
I figure if I keep my old Browning long enough they will end up having to give me a whole new bow unless I get sick of it laying around the house

Just looking at the two and not knowing anything about the horizontal limb designs on the Patriot. My guess is the Mathews is more forgiving because of the riser design.

Since you are looking at a pro-shop they should let you shoot them if they have an indoor range.

I'm old G.B. oldest son. I've shot a couple of Bow Tech bows here at a local archery shop. I've only held the Matthews bows. I was grouping 5 arrows in about a 3in group at 35 yds. I'd buy one if I had the $400 he wants for the bow. I dont remember the line but it was near their top. The man who runs the shops & his 11yr old son both shot a Bow Tech bow in the World Shoot held in Anniston, AL a couple of months ago his son placed 3rd in his group & he placed in the top 50. Thats the only bow they shoot anymore. He was shooting for team Matthews a couple of yrs ago . I'd go for the Bow Tech but its your decision & you have to go with whats comfortable to you. I for now shoot a Browning & have a old High country to hunt with. One day I'll have a new Bow Tech.

I'm also going to check out the bowtech patriot. They are a new company but from what i have "heard" they are right up there with hoyt and mathews. Also gonna check out the hoyts to see what Feels better to me. I'll probably end up with the bowtech since my grandfathers nephew has a archery shop and they are an authorized dealer for bowtech.

Hoping for a hookup with a good price. :)
