Over this weekend I did a remodel project for an older guy that I like to help out. He asked me what the bill was and I gave him the price. Knowing that he lives on a fixed income I give him below family deal, he's more like family than most of mine really are. Over the 2 decades of our friendship in trade for some tasks, he has showed me how to trap, patience in squirrel hunting and scouting techniques for deer hunting. We do our normal haggling over the price, half the fun of doing the work for him, and we come to a final agreement. He gave me $100 and hands me this balled up old towel. He told me not to open it till I got home. I agreed and set it in my tool bag and we sat for an hour and talked over coffee.
I loaded up my tools and headed home. An hour later I was bringing my tool in and remembered the towel. I set the bag down on my chair and opened the towel. Inside is an High Standard Double 9 mod. W-100.
He told me that he was giving me what he could and something special. Like I said earlier I've known him for over 20 yrs and over this time he has given me a couple guns in trade for working for him. Be it fixing fence, mucking stalls, baling hay or just any of the handyman stuff I do. Over the years I've watched him bury his wife, all 4 of his children, 7 grandchildren and most recently his only great-grand son was killed by ad IED in our last delployment to Iraq 4 years ago. John the IVth as I always called him was one of my subordinants of my squad. I helped him get in the unit we served in and went overseas with. After I came home for good, John Sr. told me it was good I was home. He was tired of buring his loved ones and joked if I got killed who would he have to the things he couldn't.
This was 4 years ago this coming March. Since then I've ETS'd from the Army and gone back to construction full time. Working on John's farm every few months.
Sorry about rambling
The question of the matter is the Revolver. I have found that me w-100 was mand in the late 50's till they changed something with the trigger and designated it the w-101. I mainly want to know all I can about the little gun. What trigger changes were done to them, since IMHO the trigger on this one is perfect. Why do all the High Standard manuals say that minimal barrel cleaning is needed. I'm used to military standards for cleaning.
