New sights for youth model.
« on: March 09, 2010, 08:17:13 AM »
I've got a brand new 22 youth model and I'm interested in some feedback on sights. I've been looking at Williams receiver and firesights, but would like to find out what some one's experiences might be.
The receiver sight I'm interested in is for grooved receivers, I think the firesights would have to be drilled and tapped.
The biggest problem I've run into is that Henry doesn't have a plain barrel band for the youth model. The factory sent me another ramp and barrel band if I wanted to modify it, but no plain band by itself, so I can install a front bead ramp sight.
I'd appreciate any help you guys can offer, thanks.

The easiest way to a FO front sight on your rifle is to file the top of your rifle's front sight blade level, with a slight concavity to accept the glue-on (epoxy) of a short section of FO rod on top.

I installed a Williams WM-96 Peep sight ($24), originally a replacement for a military Mauser's rear battle sight leaf, atop the receiver cover of my Henry, between the scope mount grooves.  The rifle zeroed, using the issue front sight, in less then 15mins.

I elected to daub some orange sight paint on the face of my front sight blade ILO doing a FO rod.
