I Think H&R Did Good
« on: February 14, 2010, 08:41:45 AM »
Here's a few photos of the BC Carbine I recently bought. I think H&R did real good picking out this piece of walnut. It is wearing a Williams WGRS sight and has the dovetail for the original sight filled with a Marbles blank.

Gorgeous! I am impressed with those!!!!!!!!!!
Live simple. Hunt Hard. Love Life.

I thank God everyday for my loving wife and all the fond memories of hunting with my Papa from a child until now.

Please take time to take a kid hunting, it will be a life long memory and blessing for both of you!

Fred,
See that, I put your idea for bullet storage to good use! I didn't use the drawers for all of the bulk bought bullets. I decided they would just use up too much space in the drawers. Thanks for the idea.

Did the factory put those sights on it. I've always been fond of the WGRS sight.

bilmac,
It came with what I believe to be Marbles sights, a post front which is still on it and a semi-buckhorn rear sight similar to those used on a Marlin 336. I just put the WGRS on it yesterday.

VERY nice wood! Have you shot it with the WGRS yet? If you haven't then be prepared to realize that the front sight is WAY too short.

I just put the sight on it and with all the snow lately I doubt I'd even be able to drive into the shooting range I use. I did figure the sight will be too low, but want to shoot it first to see how my loads do. Once I settle on a load I want to use and see where that's hitting I'll have to see about getting a taller sight. Here's a link to a BC Carbine sight discussion: http://www.gboreloaded.com/forums/index.php/topic,199600.0.html

I consider myself lucky, I have 4 BC stock sets, two are much better than the normal straight grained walnut we see. My first BC stock wasn't all that bad either, H&R chipped the toe when they fitted another 45-70 BC barrel to the 45-120 frame, hence the reason for the replacement and the reason for the recoil pad on it.

I have two BC Carbine stock sets now.  While the wood grain is very nice, I think the factory finish is lacking to bring out the best in the wood.  When I get old enough, and in mid-winter,  when I'm not able to put snowshoes on and hunt da white wabbit, I might sit down and refinish them.  Fer now, dey ken sit, deres bunnys out dere.
