Lyman Model 66A Sight

I've got a Puma Model 92 in 454 Casull. It's the stainless carbine model that doesn't have the top of the receiver drilled and tapped. I have read that a Lyman Model 66A sight for a Winchester model 94 will fit this rifle. Appreciate input from any experience with this. Thanks.

That Lyman 66A is a side-mount receiver sight, mounted exactly like a Williams 5D-94/336 or Williams FP-94/336, and requires two 6-48 holes be D/T'd in the side of the receiver for any of them, as the Rossi's are not prepped anywhere for receiver peep sights.

So, any of those side-mount peeps can be mounted, after D/T.

Also, certain (but not all) top-mounted receiver peep sights can be used on a Model 92, like the XS for the Winchester 92/94 or the Williams FP-94AE or 5D-94AE (which is what I opted for, since the 5D zeroed using the Rossi issue front sight) .

Either the XS, or one of the two Williams peeps, will require one hole D/T in the top/rear of each receiver sidewall.
 
Since I used a 5D, I D/T'd just ahead of the M92 locking lugs so the sight bar rides across the lug area:





If I were mounting an XS, I think I would mount it to the rear of the locking lug area - but, since the XS rides a lot higher, a higher front sight will definitely also be needed.



The only other receiver peep option for Model 92's is, if your rifle has a bolt safety on top, it can easily be replaced by a bolt peep - which I also did on a Rossi, and which also easily zeroed using the issue front sight.
A bolt peep can be made from a Skinner Lo-Pro peep, as I did, below:

True, but the OP was a query about a receiver peep.

You are correct sir. That's a nice looking tang sight but I just wouldn't want it that close to my eye when I touch this thing off. I just about need to go to the dentist and get my fillings replaced when I shoot this thing. Thanks again for all the great pics.

How do you like the 454? I've been wanting a lever gun for a while but there is so many good calibers to chose from. I really like the look of the skinner sight,nice and compact.

Does yours cycle 45LC very well? I already load for 45LC so thats a savings. I also hunt Indiana so the 454 would be right at home in the deer woods.

Can't tell the difference when cycling the 454's or the 45 LC's. Big difference on downrange point of impact. I'm zeroed with the 300 gr XTP 454's. The 240 gr XTP 454's shoot 10 inches higher at 100 yards while the hot loaded 250 gr XTP 45 LC's shoot 10 inches low.

Well I picked one up today, a 20" blue 454 Rossi. Have not shot it yet going to clean it real good then then run some 45LC thru it this weekend. I like the feel of the gun and the action is not that bad. I am sure it will smooth up with a few hundred cycles. I am wanting some kind of peep sight just not sure which one.
