think I may have found a new toy!
« on: February 13, 2010, 09:50:13 AM »
was at the local toy shop today and was talking to my buddy that works there, he was trying to sell me on a new marlin with the big loop lever, very nice, just not my thing.  I mentioned that I wish they made them with the straight stock again, and he told me to hold on a sec.   he comes back with a very nice marlin, straight stocked 30-30 with an octogon barrel, Just the thing I was looking for.  Its on layaway for another guy, but he is almost certain the guy will change his mind and get something else, as he has already asked about doing so.

I told him if he dares put it back on the rack, Im gonne beat him with it LOL.  I dont know if its a good price 600.00 but I may get it cheaper, I asked why so spendy, he said find me another one, LOL.  It wont matter in the end, I have a POS handgun I bought that hes gonna take as a friendly gesture. ::) and I should be able to talk him down.

any info on these, I didnt see any model number or name on it, just said marlin and 30-30.

THanks

Dave

Look at the serial number, which is how Marlins are dated.

IIRC, in 1973, Marlin put out a model called the 336 Octagon, and also a commemorative with an octagon barrel in 1971 called the Zane Gray Century.

I'm pretty sure that the only other octagon-barreled M336's are the Cowboy models, with 26" barrels.

Any one/nice find/good deal @ the $$$.
