Got drawn for the Prophetstown hunt!!!
« on: October 09, 2009, 11:31:05 AM »
I'm really looking forward to this hunt!!  We take our kids there all the time so I've learned the area pretty well, now I need to do some real scouting before my dates of Nov. 16 & 17.  I heard that it hasn't been hunted here for a long time, so I'm hoping there's some old giants chasing does for me!  ;D

KenSel,
Please tell us more about where Prophetstown is and how we would go about being drawn for it. You gotta have a little company out there so you don't get lonely. ;D

Thanks, Dinny

Dinny,  well the deadline to enter was Aug. , but it's a state park reduction hunt.  It's located between West Lafayette and Battleground.  It's about a 10 min. drive for me.  I might head there tomorrow after bowhunting and do some scouting in the area I was drawn for.

KenSel,
That would be quite the drive for me then.  Let us know what you find.

Good Luck Hunting and thanks for the info.

Well I've made it out to scout a couple times so far and I'm really looking forward to this hunt.  My area is mostly prairie with tall crp grasses but there are 4 chunks of woods between 2 and 4 acres a piece and man is it thick in there.  I found some nice rubs and scrapes and I found a big bedding area, and a few heavily used trails.  I don't know how many other guys are gonna be hunting the same area as me, but I'm a little worried about shooting a deer and having it go on a death run only to be shot by someone else.  So to remedy that I bought a Mossy 500 slugster 20ga. yesterday.  I took it to the range with 5 different slugs and the new Winchester Supreme Elite Dual Bond 2 3/4" was the clear winner with 3 shot's touching at 50yds.  I think I paid more for the slugs than I did the gun!  Glad I found something it liked quick, now I just gotta get a couple more boxes to zero it and hunt with.
