Ever dry fire your bow?
« on: February 01, 2010, 01:15:43 PM »
I was playing around tonight and my fingers slipped. luckily I was letting the string go back and was about in the 1/2 draw position.

I think tody's bows are more forgiving when this happens compared to the older models. What do you think?

NO

but  have seen  a dummy do it  one

nothing went wrong  but it can damage bow  or  string
it  might finish breaking  next draw  or 2

what  if a bow  broke at full  draw?
might  loose a finger  or eye

Absolutely not. Saw a rookie do it one time in a sporting goods store and a $400.00 bow went to pieces.

When I first started bow hunting, I dry fired the pse bow i had but it didnt do anything to it. Before this past bow season, I was in the market for a new bowtech to replace my bear. The shop i buy from had a PSE X-Force Treestand that someone couldnt hold on to when lowering back down. The bow flew out of the guy's hands. The cams were warped badly and at the expense of the shop owner had to be replaced, because the guy who dry fired the bow somehow got out of the store without anybody noticing.

Even if you drew 1/2 draw, you can have damage that you can not see and I would advise you to have a pro shop check it out.  Just think what can happen when a bow flies apart at fulldraw.  I do know of someone that this happened to, and ended up with a limb planted in his throat which killed him.

And no I have never dry fired a bow.

Never. Because I will not draw any bow without an arrow. Arrows will pull out of walls but try pulling a cam out of a limb.   ;)
