243 twist

I'm thinking about buying a .243 barrel for dual purpose, deer and predator, hunting.  I know there is no such thing as a "free lunch."  Will the .243 with 1 in 10" twist shoot sub moa out of a 28" sst fluted barrel with 55 grain (coyotes) up to 100 grain for (deer), using factory loads?  Or should I stick with two barrels?  Maybe a 204 ruger and a 25.06 (deer)?  I already own a 243.  It's a compact NEF Handi, but it's not at all what I want as far as accuracy.  The trigger is way heavy and it's such a short barrel (20") that I have yet to get a consistent group.  Any thoughts?

I have a nephue that brought down a Rem. mountain rifle in .243. Pincel barrel and plastic stock. It wore w 3 x 9 Leupold. He shot a group with 75 gr. varmint bullets that looked to be just over 1/2 in. I gave him some 100 gr. round nose bullets and told him to shoot the same point of aim as bullet impact would be different. He fired 3 of them into the same hole. 8 shot group was just over .600 with 5 - 75 gr. bullets and 3 - 100 gr. bullets. You just don`t know untill you try.

well, that makes sense.  Like a lot of things there are several variables that have their affect.  I guess I'm wondering about folks personal experience with T/C stuff.  Sounds like your nephew has a nice rifle.

 i have a 22-250 barrel on my T/C  and man that raskle shoots really well.just off a sandbag on the hood of my truck and me standing ,i hit a one inch dot 4 out of 5 shots.the flyer was my fault..i'd say the 243 barrel would be good too. i have a rem 700 in 243 and i shoot 100 gr,partition,,80 gr,ballistic tips by nosler and 58 gr, vmax by hornady and get good results with all. the twist rate in the 22-250 is 1:12 ,,don't know about the 243 but  T/C  will tell you if you call their toll free line and ask

thanks.  I knew that they use a 1:10, but I'm wondering if that will shoot the lighter varmint bullets and the heavier ones well...?  Has anyone had a 28" 243 barrel, and if so did it shoot the spectrum of bullets well or is it picky?

I have a 28 inch fluted pro hunter barrel 1 in ten I shoot speer 75 Barnes 85 and remington 100 gr all with excellent accuracy.  75 gr speer go across the screens at about 3550 to 3600.  the 100 gr at about 3200.  I have not had any problems.  The is a TC stock barrel.

My 243 Winchester only like bullets from 70 grains to 100 grains.  I tried Nosler 55 grain Ballistic Tips and Hornady 58 grain V-Max’s, but neither grouped well for any type of shooting.

Nope it’s a Mauser action rifle, but the rifling twist rate is the same as T/C's.

I have shot a 243 Win Encore barrel, but I only use bullet weights from 70 to 100 grains.  If I need a light bullet, I use my 223 Rem Encore or my father in-law's 22-250 Rem model 700 Remington.
