Author Topic: Here comes a .357 Maxi BC Carbine....she's home, Pic added (Read 1883 times)

Thanks to wreckhog, I've got a new BC Carbine stock on the way. The .357 barrel went off this morning to Lyle Mc Gregor at Dick Williams gun shop in Saginaw, MI to be cut and crowned to sixteen and a half inches and reamed to.357 Maximum. When she comes home, she'll wear a red dot, an Allen buttstock cartridge holder and a sling and live in my lap.

I'll post pictures and a range report in a week or two.

Sounds like a very worthwhile project to me, but then again I've also been known to chop a barrel or two in my time. Heck the handgun cartridge Handis just cry out for it. I know that if I can find a .357 barrel it will be in for the same treatment. The BC stock just adds a touch of class. I'm looking forward to seeing the pics.

That BC-C wood really looks good on the 'stubbies' for those of us who like a more traditional rifle.
I had thought about cutting down the longer BC forestock until the carbine wood came along. If the schnable is bobbed and you recontour you should be able to get a more British sporting rifle tip look (but I couldnt bring myself to grab a saw).

Ya know Jerry, that was posted on the 29th and I was really surprised it was still there on the first when I bought it. It took me about 30 seconds to make up my mind.

dpe, my .45 BC carbine doesn't kick half as bad as I thought it would, but around here we wear built in recoil pads about two thirds of the year........... 17 layers of clothing

I don't think the maxi will be much worse. My other one is on a synthetic, and it's not bad at all.

I'm foaming at the mouth over it. The stock'll be in tomorrow, the red dot and the Allen cartridge holder the day after, I've got the sling, need swivels and studs, but the barrel won't be back for at least a week.

I know, I shouldn't put a sling or a red dot on a BC carbine, but this is going to be my go to, work around the farm, rifle in hand, or close by. Light, Handi, and versatile. It'll probably hang from the pickup's side view mirror or a tree limb while I'm setting a fence post or cutting wood...stuff like that.

I think the .357 Maximum is the ideal utility rifle. I use the 9 round Allen 206 Buttstock cartridge holder with three each .38 Special, .357 Mag and .357 Max. It handles problems from red squirrels to black bear.

I don't know yet about the sling. I've got a primitive ML lace up sling I may put on it for a start. I'm hateing the thought of piercing that wood.

pete back a few years i had a 357 cut down to 16.5 it had a peepsight on it , and survivor stocked, i loved that little puppy, wish i had it today , sweet shooting and very accurate, i lost it when i sent it to deadeye in texas he wanted to try one out before he made one himself, and when he died it was never returned or found?

The frame came from Jeffery8mm and locked up as tight as a gnats a$$. Some of my factory fits aren't as good. Tomorrow morning is sight in and see. I'll keep ya posted.

I'm sure glad I grabbed a 357 barrel before you got them all! That's a mighty cute little gun, and I'm wondering if you can't just get a leg holster and wear that thing around like that guy on some long ago western. Course, that would throw you out of balance unless you had a pair....

dpe, That's a great idea. I do have a chrony, and it'll be interesting to shoot and compare the 22 inch and the 16.5 inch with the same loads in .38, .357 and Maxi. The snow should be out of here before too much longer and we'll give it a go.

I forgot to mention, Dick Williams Gun Shop in Saginaw charged me 67.50 plus 10.00 UPS for the ream, cut and crown. I thought that was very reasonable.

Well now I feel left out! I almost had one the other day off of buds, but the wife said no. I knew I should not have asked her!!!!

Anyway, one day some way some how there will be a maxi in my truck right beside the colt 357 6" revolver.
