spring squirel hunting

Good day,

   I live in Wichita, Ks., and am considering aiming my ole' RV somewhere to hopefully find gophers 'fore the grass is too tall.  Minor problem, is I have no idea where to go.
   Our pockets aren't deep (disabled and retired), so can't trek to Montana, but perhaps New Mexico. Wy., or   I've read of vast numbers when the season is tolerable, and would sure enjoy busting a few 'fore I hang it up.

Your subject is "squirrels" and then you mention "gophers" and then mention short grass.  I am going to assume you mean Prairie Dogs.   The Dodge City area is not that far west of Wichita, just a short trip on Hwy 50.  You can go into almost any small town restaurant or visit some ranches and ask local farmers about p dogs.  Most will let you hunt if you ask the right way.  If they like you many will also give you tips on neighbors that have dog problems or might let you hunt.
