Range report

A while back I lucked into a 30-30 barrel for a darn good price($70 bucks shipped) and it went to the range with me today for the first time.Wearing camo lam monte-carlo stock and 2.5X20mm shotgun scope mounted forward of the hammer, she's a good looker ;). Made up some loads with 150 grFNGC bullets at about 1800fps, bullets crimped in the crimp groove,nothing special. Fired 10 rds, no real effort at barrel-cooling, just fired em at the target one after another. After firing # 10 I checked the target and all ten went into a 2" hole. This was at 50 yds but the bottom line is that this barrel really wants to shoot....

The 30-30 is one of a kind classic joined in my book only by the 22 lr as classic. A lot of folks will throw the 45-70 into the category and I agree, but I don't own one yet.

Good report.  I'm still waiting for my .30-30.  I've got a load worked up for my Mod 94 that uses the 311041 bullet, pushed to just a little over 1800fps.  I'm waiting to see how it does in the Handi.

The 30-30 is a great handi chambering and you rarely hear of one that dosen't shoot...

  I am amaised at how well mine shoots. I found one at a yard sale for $20.with factory 150gr rem ammo it will shoot into 3" at 100yds. how much better could I ask from open sights. DR

30-30 Handis are definitely shooters, I have two 30-30 barrels that I bought used and fitted myself, I hand reamed one to Ackley, they both shoot excellent, groups were shot at 100yds, scoped cuz this old guy can't see open sights any more.  8)

it surprised me how easy it was to hit with(shoot well) without really working hard at it....Mike
