sks value

hey guys, would like some different opinions on what the sks rifle is bringing pricewise around the country. here in missouri they seem to be going for around 150 to 185 bucks pretty consistantly. this is in the buddy to buddy trade type thing. ive heard they are much higher in gunshops and have seen some really silly HIGH prices in some pawn shops. have seen a few at various gunshows for around 150 but never less than that. the shorter barreled ones bring more but dont really see to many of them anymore. would love to hear what their going for in other parts of the country!

Your right all across the country the prices do vary on sks's.  Here in CT. the russian sks is between $300 to $400+,  the chinese sks is between $175 to $225, the romanian sks is around $200 and the yugo is between $150 to $190 these are just average going rate prices that can vary too here.  Because there is a ban on AK's in 7.62x39 here some are trying to cash in on the sks too now.  But I have heard the romanian sks going higher close to the russian prices too since they are scarce. But of course price vs. condition too.  Now sks paratroopers and sks sporters are another story they are worth more add on $100 and the ones that take ak mags add on $150 if you can find one.                                   BigBill

FYI;
Funny most of the Chinese sks's here that I see are privately sold are still in new/unused condition  which makes them great finds for that price you really can't go wrong buying one. I guess most bought them and didn't shoot them or very little.  But these guns just sat in closets for years and I find them to be very dry (no oil). Just a warning to clean and lube before shooting.  While the Yugo and Albanian sks's are still being sold by AIM SURPLUS again you can still get them pretty reasonable. But my point is when AIM first ran out of ablies I seen them on the net for sale at a broker site for $495. So if one really wants a yugo or ablie we should really buy one now before they go up too.  Remember when the first chinese sks's were sold here??  They were $1,000 at first and they didn't sell then they dropped down to $59 to start selling them. And you got a free case of ammo too (1,000rds) But my point is look at what theyare now selling for.

Back in the late 80s I bought a Chinese SKS for $79.00. It's probably doubled in value now. I've seen some as high as $250.00. I gave it to my son and he has kept it for a few years now. It was unfired, so said the paperwork on it.

I picked up my norinco sks, brand new, for $125 Canadian.  The gun shop even threw in a cheap hard gun case, and 2, 25 round boxes of fmj's.  I just use this gun for plinking, but I've put over 2000 rounds through it without even one jam.

My first norinco sks with a case of ammo was $59 in the late 80's, my second norinco in the early 90's was $89 no ammo and the last sks's I seen were mid 90's for $125.  Of course the russian sks's were $20 more but the AK's were high back then too.  If we only knew??  A warehouse full of new unissued norinco's right now would put you on the stock exchange??                                                        BigBill

We are very lucky most of the Chinese Norinco SKS's I see are still in NEW UNSHOT condition??  Its like they shot their buddies sks so they bought one just to have one and never shot it?? One "SINO" I picked up the guy told me his buddies was selling it and only had one box of ammo shot out of it. Looking the gun over I comfirmed it and it looked like it just came out of the box? No wear inside the reciever or on the slide at all.  For those who don't know what a SINO is its the very first sks's that the russians showed the Chinese how to assemble the russians brought all russian made parts so these chinese sks's are actually russian sks's and can be had for a chinese price thats the best part!!!!!!!!

There is a site about SINO sks's and what to look for there are many left out there yet if you/me look I found two one in a pawnshop and one at a gun show. They also have a deeper russian bluing color to them too.  The chrome barrels are a plus in any sks.  The yugo's are the only sks's without chrome barrels so you have to make sure you clean them good. I clean every gun as if I shot corrosive ammo anyway just to be safe.
